Functional Safety | The safety of everything
▶ Functional Safety encompasses various safety standards, with IEC 61508 as one of the most prominent standard. For more information visit: https://www.tuv.com/world/en/functional-safety-in-the-process-industry.html ▶ Funtional Safety: The safety of plants such as chemical plants, refineries or oil and gas production plants in the process industry is becoming increasingly reliant upon complex safety systems. Requirements of these electrical, electronic and programmable electronic safety-related systems (E/E/PES) are described in the internationally acknowledged standard IEC 61508. The application of standards IEC 61511 define the requirements regarding the application and implementation of these safety-related systems (safety instrumented systems - SIS) in the process industry. They describe requirements of functional safety in process technical plants in detail, starting from the first concept, through design, installation, operation, and maintenance to decommissioning. ▶ More information on Functional Safety in Process Industry https://www.tuv.com/world/en/functional-safety-in-the-process-industry.html ▶ More information on Functional Safety of Machinery https://www.tuv.com/world/en/functional-safety-of-machinery.html ▶ More information on Functional Safety of Automotive Components https://www.tuv.com/world/en/functional-safety-of-automotive-components.html ▶ Participate or arrange for Functional Safety Trainings https://www.tuv.com/world/en/functional-safety-trainings.html ID: AA19_I03_FS

ISO 26262 Compliant Unit Testing Strategies: An Introduction
We are here with yet another video in the ISO 26262 series! In this particular video, we talk about various Unit Testing strategies defined by the ISO 26262 standard. Unit Testing being one of the most critical steps in an application development process, the ISO 26262 Standard has a section (Part 6.9) dedicated for this. The video primarily deals with this part and explains every step in the process. We also have a detailed blog on ISO 26262 compliant unit testing. You can find it here. https://www.embitel.com/blog/embedded-blog/how-iso-26262-compliant-unit-testing-strategies-manifest-in-automotive-software-development In order to achieve the required ASIL compliance for an automotive application or solution, Unit Testing serves as the first step of system verification and validation process. We have tried to explain every input that goes into Unit Testing, along with the final output. The video also throws some light on what is known as the Table 10 of ISO 26262 standard, which summarizes the ISO 26262 compliant unit testing. The video has been designed to make the entire process concise and easy to understand. This makes the video ideal for anyone who is interested in automotive functional safety. We hope that you will like the video. Watch out this space for more such videos on automotive functional safety and other aspects of the automotive-embedded ecosystem. ISO26262 Functional Safety - Evaluation of SPFM, LFM and PMHF using the FMEDA Method
What does the term Hardware Architecture Metrics mean? What is its significance in your Functional Safety Journey? How are they derived? The video unveils answers to these questions, which often cross the minds of several automotive Product Engineering Teams. You can also learn more about our ISO26262 related services here: https://www.embitel.com/product-engineering-2/iso-26262functional-safety We are referring to the teams, who are, trying to implement ISO 26262 mandated Functional Safety guidelines, in letter and Spirit. Yes, this Video Blog (Vlog) is for all such Automotive Functional Safety Enthusiasts. An automotive ECU consists of numerous hardware components - viz. resistors, capacitors, MOSFETs etc. In order to make the entire ECU fail-safe, as an engineer, you should have a clear understanding of how each of these components would behave in a scenario when certain fault occurs. You also need to analyze the standard safety-mechanisms in place that are necessary to get back to the required “safe-state”, after certain fault has occurred. To ensure all this, it is imperative to derive certain hardware metrics. And FMEDA is an industry-wide accepted method to derive the hardware metrics. Here is the Textbook Definition of FMEDA: Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) is a method for the quantitative analysis of random failure in hardware components, against various architecture and safety goal violations. Why is FMEDA so important? Find out in this Functional Safety Video Blog (Vlog). The video gives an overview of the FMEDA method for the evaluation of Hardware Architecture Metrics. However, if you wish to go into details of the FMEDA method, our webinar will of great help. Download the webinar here. https://www.embitel.com/product-engineering-2/embedded-webinars/how-to-evaluate-hardware-architecture-metrics-for-automotive-ecu-using-fmeda-method

How to Determine ASIL for an Automotive Component
All the stakeholders of the Automotive Industry (Automotive OEMs, Suppliers and the Embedded System Engineers) have already come in terms with the significance of Functional Safety of an Automobile. In order to achieve and maintain the highest standards of Functional Safety for the vehicle occupants, in-depth understanding and expertise in ISO 26262 Standard will play a crucial role. This functional safety standard specifies Automotive Safety and Integrity Level (ASIL), which is the measurement of the safety criticality of the components. Determination of ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) will be one of the most critical milestones of your Automotive Functional Safety Journey. There are also some challenges associated with determination of ASIL. One automotive component may be more safety critical than the other. Hence, the Functional Safety Engineers need to measure the ASIL of all safety-critical E/E vehicle components such as electronic power-steering, ABS, airbags etc. to ensure their ISO26262 compliance. We have put together a video related to ASIL. Hope this will serve as a good starting point for your Functional Safety journey. If you wish to wish to know about ASIL in more detail, refer to our blog, https://www.embitel.com/blog/embedded-blog/understanding-how-iso-26262-asil-is-determined-for-automotive-applications Key Learnings from the Video: • Different levels of ASIL • Importance of ASIL in achieving functional safety • How is ASIL determined? • Factors considered while determining ASIL The video is designed to provide help to automotive OEMs, engineers and even business managers working in automotive industry. For additional details, please have a look at our ISO26262 service offerings. https://www.embitel.com/product-engineering-2/iso-26262functional-safety
